There is now an increase in demand to balance external courses for schools with more focused school based training.
External courses still provide an important dimension to keep up to date and the Network will still promote the use of high quality speakers and venues to meet this need. Masterclasses have been introduced for 2005 with a focus on leadership and learning at classroom, middle and senior leadership levels
All or our courses are now being offered as a basis for school based training. With the re-emergence of local partnerships and networks, more structured training taking place within the school day and possible budget constraints, schools need to reconsider further the future of professional development. A peer coaching model is now being widely considered and we are actively promoting this CPD model because of its proven impact on long lasting change.
Your school might like to consider balancing the external courses with customized school based coaching, training and development.
The following are the general areas which are popular where the Network has recently provided school based INSET and CPD.
The changing role of the Subject Leader
The skills of the Coach and Team Leader
The new priorities and their implication for Year Leaders
Bringing coherence to school improvement, school self review and performance management
Developing the role of a Key Stage Manager and its implications
Developing 'Learning to Learn' courses in your school - how to do it and the activities to support it
Interactive learning techniques for use in the classroom
Structuring lessons to include assessment for learning techniques
