This insight day has been designed to give colleagues confidence and solutions to lead, review, assure quality, coach and move your school forward.

The course will provide practical solutions to school self review, quality assurance, leadership roles, and reviewing the progress of students. In addition, guidance systems, curriculum models and core roles will be explored which attempt to meet the needs of the student and help raise their skills, aspirations and talents by genuinely looking at learning. Students skills for learning will be promoted through learning how to learn to balance all the unnecessary focus on data. Strategies of leading the school will be balanced by strategies of leading the classroom.

It will be of interest to:

  • staff who want to move their school away from the narrow focus on attainment, targets and data to one which genuinely focuses on coherence, learning, teamwork, professional characteristics, values and principles.

  • staff who are more interested in using student perceptions of their experiences rather than looking at a regression line!!

The course aims to:

  • Provide an overview of recent 'leading edge' developments
  • Explore the core roles and responsibilities of leadership staff to focus more on outcomes and learning
  • Provide systems at classroom and school level which move from 'control' to 'learning'
  • Explore models for self review at school, departmental and classroom level
  • Emphasise the importance and need for schools to take control of their internal review in the light of OFSTED developments
  • Explore coherent curriculum models and pathways pre and post 14
  • Look at the place for learning how to learn in the curriculum
  • Highlight evidence from case studies of what is working to raise attainment and improve students' learning habits
  • Explain the importance of assessment for learning
  • Emphasise the importance of focusing on learning 'habits' in student

Course Leader
The course will be led by Chris Haines who is a successful full time trainer. He works closely with many schools and his work is highly valued as he has a reputation for providing solutions that work. He is an expert on learning, assessment, skills development, student tracking, guidance systems and curriculum models which emphasis learning and skills. His work in schools is appreciated as he continually provides solutions which meet the needs of both schools and students.
